Penfolds St Henri Shiraz Barossa Valley 2013
This year’s guise of St Henri is all that we have come to expect from one of Penfolds’ purest expressions of the Shiraz grape a wine that has not been dictated by fashion or trend and continues to be aged in large, old oak barrels, allowing the grape’s character to fully shine through. The nose is full of blackberry fruit, opening up to elements of mocha, espresso bean and tapenade. The medium-bodied, savoury palate is gentlemanly and restrained, yet builds slowly on to the back palate, filling the mouth with dark fruit compôte, spice and a silky tar note. A touch broader-shouldered than last year’s offering, this still has all the poise and balance we expect from this reassuringly "old style” Shiraz. Wine Advocate 97100
